CyberSecurity: Protecting Your Business Accounts and Assets from Cybercriminals

This workshop presentation will identify the vulnerabilities that businesses have to cybercriminals and will provide solutions to enhance security. Topics of discussion will include:

  • Maintaining a secure identity across multiple platforms
  • How to balance the risks/rewards of local storage versus using the Cloud
  • First warnings that your computer, data, or identity have been compromised

James VaughnMr. James Vaughn is a Managing Director at iDiscovery Solutions (iDS), an award-winning e-Discovery, expert testimony, and digital forensics firm. Mr. Vaughn is a court-recognized expert who has given testimony involving topics such as evidence preservation, documentation of events, and computer forensic methodologies and procedures. Among Mr. Vaughn's many accomplishments, he has co-developed and taught computer forensic courses for the California Department of Justice.

Mr. Vaughn utilizes his extensive experience working on litigation and consulting matters along with his 16 years of law enforcement experience to train law enforcement officers, attorneys, and other examiners who seek his expertise in computer forensics and high-technology related issues involving best practices and methodologies. Due to his extensive knowledge and expertise, Mr. Vaughn is frequently called upon to speak on such topics as data breach investigations, the EDRM model and its role in e-Discovery strategies, mobile device forensics, social media research and collections, and digital forensics vs. electronically stored information (ESI).

Gordon CalhounMr. Gordon Calhoun is a Partner with the law firm of "Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP". He represents individuals, partnerships, corporations and other business entities in litigation and counsels them about the broad variety of business, regulatory and risk and information management protocols, including data breach responses, and compliance practices. Mr. Calhoun also specializes in representing clients in a variety of complex, large exposure litigation matters, involving large volumes of paper and electronically stored information (ESI).

Mr. Calhoun regularly works with a variety of forensic consultants and certified records managers to assist clients to develop information management systems and to secure sensitive data. When data breaches occur, Mr. Calhoun and his legal team coordinate with the client's Information Technology staff, forensic and crisis management consultants to identify and contain the source(s) of any data breach, mitigate the reputational harm associated with the breach, and comply with applicable data breach notification obligations.

Mr. Calhoun serves as the Chair of his law firm's Electronic Discovery, Information Management & Compliance Practice, and is Vice-Chair of the firm's Data Privacy & Network Security Practice. Mr. Calhoun received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Johns Hopkins University and his Juris Doctor Degree from Stanford University School of Law.

The 2010 Cypress - SBA Matchmaker Event was a unique opportunity for small businesses and buyers of goods and services to meet and connect. The City of Cypress and SBA Officials welcomed 110 buyers and sellers.  Sellers represented large businesses and government agencies interested in supporting small businesses by contracting with them for purchases of goods and services. Buyers were from city, county, state and federal agencies, as well as large prime contractors, utility companies and port authorities. They were looking for small subcontractors and other organizations with combined purchasing budgets ranging in the millions of dollars to participate.

AGENT Inaugural Meeting
The inaugural meeting of the City of Cypress' Assist, Grow, Educate, Network & Thrive (AGENT) program was held on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the Cypress Community Center. Over 40 Cypress small business owners participated. This meeting is the kickoff of a series of free educational meetings to address the needs of the Cypress small business community.

The topics of discussion included survival tips to help the Cypress business community survive and thrive, the 2009 Economic Stimulus Package and what's in it for Cypress businesses, government contracts and learning the process of obtaining the necessary certification to get those contracts.
