Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans for Construction Activities
If you plan to construct a project on land that is greater than 1 acre, you will be required to submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) to the State of California Water Resources Control Board as well as prepare a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). This document identifies the erosion and sediment control best management practices in addition to other best management practices that will be implemented at the construction site to prevent stormwater discharges. An NOI must be kept on file at the construction site for the duration of the project until construction is completed.
Information pertaining to the Notice of Intent can be obtained at the State of California State Water Resources Control Board website at www.waterboards.ca.gov/water_issues/programs.
If you need guidance in preparing a SWPPP, please visit the United States Environmental Protection Agency National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) webpage at cfpub.epa.gov/npdes/stormwater/swppp.cfm.
All construction projects, at a minimum, shall conform with the construction best management practices as noted in the Construction Guidance Run Off Manual Best Management Practices Handbook. Also, please refer to the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program manual for best management practices for private property construction sites.
